For the love of the game!

"It is not easy being a man coaching a netball club but because of my passion for this sport I enjoy each and every moment of it."

EVATON.- If you think netball teams are only owned by females, you had better think again!
Lebohang Mphuthi (39) is one of a few men who are involved in netball where he trains girls that are in his team, Vaal Stars Netball Team, in Evaton.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Mphuthi said that he established the club in 2008 after he realised that most of the girls in the township had nothing to do with their time.

He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that at first, people didn’t understand what a man was doing in netball which is a sport many view as a ‘female sport’ but he persevered .

As an assistant coach, Mphuthi represented Sedibeng Netball in the Soncini Games in Cape Town in 2017.
“It is not easy being a man coaching a netball club but because of my passion for this sport I enjoy each and every moment of it.
I work with very talented young girls and I have no doubt that they are going to make it in netball and become professionals,” he said.
Mphuthi said that their biggest challenge is a lack of equipment as he runs the team from his own pocket, with his team consisting of three divisions namely juniors, sub-juniors and seniors.
