Dog thrown with boiling water for trying to mate with unsterilized female dog

BOPHELONG.- A dog was thrown with boiling water because it entered someone’s property in Bophelong and tried to mate with their female dog that is on heat.

SPCA Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark said the dog dubbed Bobby had to be euthanased as his owner could not afford veterinary treatment and could not keep Bobby contained inside his yard.

“Had Bobby been sterilized this could have all been avoided. ”

“One of the residents in Bophelong has an unsterilized female dog, named Missy, whom she loves dearly and does not want to get pregnant as she cannot afford to look after more dogs. Missy is in very good condition and well taken care of – kept in a yard that is fully enclosed. A loved dog.”

“Bobby, also a well looked after dog, kept on escaping from his owner’s property. He was not sterilized. Looking for females on heat was a daily occurrence. His owner could not afford to pay R1200 to sterilize Bobby at a private veterinarian. We believe that had Bobby been sterilized he would not have roamed the streets and this whole debacle could have been avoided.

“Missy’s owner spoke to Bobby’s owner on numerous occasions, pleading to him to keep Bobby in his yard as he is trying to mate with Missy. Bobby’s owner was hopeless as he did not want to keep Bobby on a chain but could not afford sterilization. Missy’s owner decided to take matters into her own hands and threw Bobby with boiling water. Bobby’s owner was very angered by this incident and immediately contacted the SPCA for help.”

The SPCA immediately responded to investigate the matter and get veterinary assistance for Bobby. Sadly, Bobby was of an advanced age and his owner could not afford to pay a private veterinarian to treat him.

“His owner decided that it was best to send Bobby over the rainbow bridge. We comforted Bobby until the end. We were not going to let him suffer any longer.”

Charges of animal cruelty will also be laid in terms of the Animals Protection Act.
