ARCELORMITTAL Foundation and Thusong Projects donate food

With the devastating economic and social consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, this has become an even greater need as people face joblessness and economic hardship.

EVATON.- The ArcelorMittal Foundation and Thusong Projects distributed 300 food parcels in Evaton North, one of the oldest townships in South Gauteng, on Friday, 4 December 2020.

The ArcelorMittal South Africa Foundation is the community, economic and enterprise development arm of ArcelorMittal South Africa. ArcelorMittal South Africa aims to be a broker of hope in the communities that host its operations. With the devastating economic and social consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, this has become an even greater need as people face joblessness and economic hardship.

The ArcelorMittal Foundation worked with Thusong Projects and local Evaton NGOs to identify families most in need and beneficiaries were mostly registered child-headed families, single parent/income households and elderly families caring for minor grandchildren. Earlier in the year, the company donated 600 food parcels to the most vulnerable farm communities of Vaal Oewer and Barrage informal settlements. The Thusong Projects’ Soup Kitchen has also ramped up its food distribution service in the Vaal Triangle since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, serving over 1 000 people at least one hearty meal a day.
