ELM implements Rand Water’s 20% water reduction

“Consequently, the municipality must intensify water demand management measures as part of ongoing water conservation efforts."

SEDIBENG.- An unpleasant, somewhat dry, festive season awaits the residents of the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM).
This follows the announcement by the ELM  that from Tuesday, 1 December, it will implement the decision undertaken by its water supplier, Rand Water, to reduce the water supply to the municipality. This is due to none or partial payment of its account to the national water supplier. A notice issued by the ELM said that the reduction is a credit-control measure imposed by Rand Water and comes into effect from Tuesday (1 December 2020). “Consequently, the municipality must intensify water demand management measures as part of ongoing water conservation efforts. However, water consumption remains alarmingly high, with the festive season upon us, a period of holidays during which most residents are home.”

The ELM said that the reduction by Rand Water will lead to intermittent water supply during peak water consumption hours (mornings and evenings) but will not result in a total shutdown.
Some areas may experience periodic shortages in water supply, particularly high-laying areas.
