Maintain stricter Covid rules in gyms

Fitness enthusiast from the Vaal Triangle writes:

The Corona virus has drastically changed the lives of all of us. A family member of mine turned up at death due to Covid-19, so our family takes the disease very seriously. Strict measures also apply at my workplace.

I am a big fitness enthusiast and exercise every day after work at a gym in the Vaal Triangle. What makes me grumpy is that the Covid rules around every corner and turn are ignored. The gym makes adequate provision for hand sanitation and the staff all wear masks all the time, but about 60% of the visitors do not care about the rules at all. They walk without masks from the locker rooms to the training areas, and many also train all the time on the equipment without a mask in sight. I do not expect the impossible and that people should always wear masks when practicing at least two meters apart, but keep your mask on hand and put it on immediately before moving closer to other people.

I wear my mask not only to protect myself but also others and I expect the same from other people. Unfortunately, some clearly do not care.

I discussed the matter with the gym manager and although he agrees, he says they can not do much about it because the club members get angry when they are addressed about it. I have also already sent a letter in this regard to the gym’s head office, but have not yet received a reply.

If I do not see an improvement in the situation in two weeks, I will announce the name of the gym in question in Vaalweekblad and ask for a thorough investigation.
