Daughter believes her mother was strangled

MEYERTON. - The murder of 84-year-old Heilie Jonk has left her family with nothing short of trauma.

“I see my mother every day. I waited for her to come over as usual on Saturday morning, but she didn’t show up. I expected her at around 08:30 and when I saw that it was already 10:00 and still no sighn of her, I went to her flat to check on her.”
Pitout says when she entered the flat, she noticed that her mom’s cell phone and tablet were not on the couch as usual. I thought maybe my mom is busy talking on the phone.
“I peeked inside my mother’s bedroom, I first noticed that her dustbin was not where it usually is. I looked at the bed and there she was, my mother covered in a thick blanket. I immediately knew that she was no longer alive, her arm and face was blue.
“You see, my mom gets very hot, you would never find her covered with such a thick blanket. That is how I knew that something had happened. I could feel my back tighten, I immediately called the CPF. They in return called the police to the scene.”
Police are investigating the murder of 84-year-old Heilie Jonk who was found dead in her bed on Saturday morning.
Pitout believes that her mother was strangled and that the blue face was as a result of that. “She never locked her doors. The reason for this is that she wanted to be able to get away from intruders.”
Pitout said that after the police arrived, they called her back to the scene to look at the body. “That is when I saw that she had something around her neck.”
Pitout described her mother as a Christian who loved everyone. “She was loving and kind, and loved reading her Bible and going to Bible study. I’m going to miss her.”
The family has since condemned the public for spreading fake rumours as to what happened. “Anyone who wants to know what happened must ask the family instead of spreading false information.”
Pitout said that the phone and the tablet has still not been found.
The Meyerton Rural Safety Police, Warrant Officer Gavin van Heerden was the first to arrive on the scene.
Police Spokesperson Constable Tlaleng Moloi says, “On arrival at the scene, police found the old lady showing no signs of life. Paramedics certified her dead on the scene. The motive is uknown, and police are investigating a case of murder.”
