She was one of the outstanding hockey players for HTS Carel de Wet, in Vanderbijlpark.

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Mbali Mnisi (18) is a young girl on a mission to make a name for herself in hockey. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, after attending her matric farewell recently, Minisi said that she wants to pursue her hockey career at a much higher level. She was one of the outstanding hockey players for HTS Carel de Wet, in Vanderbijlpark. Her performance saw her being selected for the Southern Gauteng Hockey team in 2019. Her ambition is to represent South Africa in the sport in international competitions. Mnisi started playing hockey at primary school at the age of 12. She told Sedibeng Ster Sport that her love for this sport developed more when she got to grade 8. “I was 14 years old, doing Grade 8 when I won an award for being the best improved hockey player. This motivated me even more and I really fell in love with the sport to the extent where I found myself enjoying hockey. I eventually started to achieve big things such as playing for Southern Gauteng. Mnisi described her matric farewell dance as the highlight of 2020 for her. Mnisi revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport that she intends to study medicine at Wits University next year. “With my secondary school studies coming to an end I will play this sport at university,” she said. Mnisi is passionate about helping others, and being a leader is one of her qualities. She is currently part of the Learner Representative Committee at HTS Carel de Wet. She ends, “I’m going to miss my teachers but most importantly, playing hockey at school. I will come back to impart my knowledge by helping other learners who will be playing hockey at this school at a later stage.”
