Kopanong Hospital’s employee appears in court for sexual harassment

"We want to see him arrested. He is a danger to society, to our daughters and any woman living in the community. "

VEREENIGING. – A kopanong Hospital employee briefly appeared at the Vereeniging Magistrates Court on Monday. The employee faces charges of sexual harassment  after  a female security guard working at the hospital opened a case against him.

A number of female security guards have since spoken out about how the male employee made their lives at work unbearable. It is alleged that the male employee makes sexual advances and asks female security guards to sleep with him.

Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) yesterday demonstrated outside the court, singing and holding placards.

EFF Gender Based Violence Coordinator Busisiwe Mafereka says, “Women are being abused wherever they go. We are not going to get tired. We did not come here because are bored, we came here because we want to see justice being served for the victim. The suspect does not show any remorse. We are tired of the abuse of women in our community.”

Likupa Ntelele from National Association of South African Workers  (NASA) says, “I’m disappointed in the way this matter has been handled. The suspect is enjoying more protection than the victim even from this court. The hospital itself was not proactive in handling this matter because the victim had been complaining about the matter and no one took steps against the suspect. It is alleged that  female workers have been harassed by the suspect since 2015.

“We want to see him arrested. He is a danger to society, to our daughters and any woman living in the community. ”
