Shut down ELM says residents

“We are all indigent”.

VANDERBIJLPARK. – “We are all indigents”.
So said the crowd that met to complain about the Emfuleni Local Municipality’s (ELM) shortcomings in Vanderbijlpark on Sunday October 4. Their point was that everybody, regardless of where they live in the area, should pay for services. The concerned residents of Vanderbijlpark met outside the Vanderbijlpark Public Library on Sunday. Their arguments state that residents who live in the townships should also be paying for services, regardless of where they live.
“As things stand, service in all areas are the same – poor,” they said. They also argued that a minimum flat rate of R1 200 is too much. They want a flat rate of R600 across the colour line. Residents also demanded a complete shutdown of the Emfuleni Local Municipality and a breakdown of the Compario report.
“A total and indefinite shutdown would make an impact,” they said. Community members complained about the ongoing wrong billing system by the ELM.
“To date, no arrests have been made on the Comperion report except the Mayor’s frequent argument that investigations are still underway.” Community members said that the Mayor should stop to put the interest of his ‘cronies ahead of the wagon’. “It’s a shame that every time we talk of the corrupt Emfuleni officials, the mayor puts the bible in front,” said the angry residents. Most of the areas of Emfuleni were represented at the meeting with attendance of more than a hundred people.
