When she came back, she was once again told to come after another three months.

BOIPATONG. – At the age of 44 years old, Anna Motaung is still without an Identity Document (ID). Sedibeng Ster visited this mother of three children in France Ext near Boipatong, to found out why she still without ID after hearing of her situation. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Motaung said she applied for an ID in 1995 at the Vanderbijlpark Home Affairs offices and after she applied for it she was told to come after three months. She said when she came back, she was once again told to come after another three months. Thereafter she made the trip several times without luck. She was eventually told that she shares an ID number with someone. “I don’t how this happened but I was told I share an identity number with someone. I have been at Vanderbijlpark Home Affairs in and out without success. They even sent me to Vereeniging Home Affairs but still with no success. I have lost hope and I can’t even apply for my children’s birth certificates and ID’s.” Motaungs first born son didn’t do matric because he also doesn’t have an ID. “It means that even this one who is doing grade 11 now won’t write his matric. They refused to admit my daughter at school because she doesn’t have a birth certificate. I have done everything to find out what happened but no one explains to me what happened,” said the single mother. To make the situation worse, Motaung said she can’t even apply for the government grant for her children since she doesn’t work. Sedibeng Ster is following up Motaung’s case with the Vanderbijlpark Home Affairs Department.
