COVID-19 education continues

“This will also give an opportunity to young actors to participate in this project to build their profile and be financially empowered."

SEBOKENG.- Lentswe Performing Arts, a registered NPO under the directorship of a theatre and film practitioner, Zakaria Lethoba, based in Sebokeng, is currently being funded by the National Arts Council (NAC) for a COVID-19 virtual awareness campaign called ‘Maleven’.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Lethoba said that the campaign is an edutainment project.
“The nation is now in alert level 1 of Covid-19 but people still need to be informed about the dangers of Coronavirus on how to stay safe and protect themselves until we are completely safe from, the pandemic. With this project we want to sensitize people about the dangers of Corona-virus using art as a mouthpiece by filming COVID-19 educational clips that will be uploaded on all social media platforms.”
The short video skits will be performed by local actors alongside Lethoba who will be playing the character of ‘Maleven’, a funny and humorous chap who always finds crazy ways to get out of messy situations.
Lethoba said that each Friday a new skit will be released for people to enjoy and be educated at the same time.
“This will also give an opportunity to young actors to participate in this project to build their profile and be financially empowered.
“Many people have lost their loved ones due to Coronavirus and to avoid resurgence we must continue to comply with the safety precautionary measures by keeping safe social distance, regularly washing hands with soap or alcohol sanitizers and always wearing masks which will be what the storylines will be emphasizing in this project.”
He adds that the aim of this project is to maintain consistency as far as protection is concerned and turning mobile phones into information platforms since everyone is on social media platforms.
“Art can be used as a tool to handle all social and health issues since we have the power to evoke emotions and connect with people through our creative work.”
