Bogus doctor nabbed in Vanderbijilpark

VANDERBIJLPARK.- The MEC for Community Safety Faith Mazibuko and law enforcement officials arrested a bogus doctor operating in Vanderbijilpark.

In a statement Mazibuko said: “Surgery closed in Vanderbijlpark due to non-compliance and for employing a bogus doctor.”

In an unannounced visit the Health Professions Council of SA (HPCSA) and the office of the MEC collaborated with the Vanderbijilpark SAPS in conducting an inspection at the practice of Chericha Day Clinic.

In August police arrested an alleged bogus optician who was operating an Optical Laboratory for about fifteen (15) years. The alleged optician was cutting, fitting and dispensing spectacles in Vanderbijlpark.

The HPCSA said it noted with “grave concern” the continuing trend by registered practitioners to employ unregistered locums to work in their practises.

“The HPCSA and Law Enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to eradicate the illegal health care practise of bogus healthcare practitioners.”

The public has been urged to report suspicious illegal practises by unregistered persons as it puts people’s lives at risk.

To provide tip-offs, contact the HPCSA at 012 338 9300/1 or email: inspectorate@hpcsa.co.za.
