Two hijackers die after motor vehicle capsizes

“The suspect drove the car for fifteen meters and stopped to pick up two more culprits. The victim was further assaulted and his hands fastened using cable ties. Upon arrival in Boskat Road in Meyerton, the suspects threw the victim out of the vehicle.”

DE-DEUR. – Police spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda reports that an African Male was driving on De-Deur South road when he gave a man and woman who had been hitch-hiking a lift.

‘The African male opened the window and was immediately stabbed on the chest by the man who then ordered him to get out of the car. “The two hikers then climbed into the car and attempted to drive away, but the car wouldn’t start. The man then stabbed the victim again and ordered him to start the car, which he did.

“The suspect drove the car for fifteen meters and stopped to pick up two more culprits. The victim was further assaulted and his hands fastened using cable ties. Upon arrival in Boskat Road in Meyerton, the suspects threw the victim out of the vehicle.”

The car capsized 20 meters further from where the victim was thrown out. A man and a woman aged 23 and 27 respectively died on the scene and the other two suspects ran away on foot. Police are investigating a case of hijacking and an inquest.

“The Victim is in hospital, critical but stable.”

Sedibeng Cluster Commander Major General Zodwa Molefe has urged motorists to be vigilant and safe while travelling on the roads. “Instead of picking up hikers, rather leave them to catch public transport.”
