Tributes pour in for George Bizos

In a Tweet last night President Cyril Ramaphosa said the news of the passing of George Bizos is very sad for us as a country.

The Legal Resources Centre said the anti-apartheid activist died peacefully at home of natural causes, attended to by his family.

The renowned human rights activist and lawyer died at the age of 92.

Bizos represented the late former South African President Nelson Mandela at his treason trial in 1963.

Ramaphosa described Bizos as an incisive legal mind and architect of our Constitution

“He contributed immensely to our democracy. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and dip our heads in his honour.”

According to SA History Online Bizos appeared at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), representing families of liberation heroes such as Steve Bantu Biko, Chris Hani and the Cradock Four.
