SAFA submits development request to government

This is good news for amateur football.

SEDIBENG.- Amateur football has been given a hope to resume.
This was after the South African Football Association (SAFA) submitted a request for the resumption of amateur football under Level 2 of COVID-19 to the government in line with regulations gazetted.
It has been almost six months since amateur football has been suspended, but the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and GladAfrica Championship have since resumed with their league matches.
SAFA said as soon as the government approves the application, the association will communicate with all stakeholders on the commencement dates and processes. This is good news for amateur football, taking into consideration that development coaches and managers had already given up.
Fake news is that all development leagues have been cancelled, SAFA has dismissed these claims.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, development coaches said they are concerned with their players being all over, playing illegal games.
“We don’t have control over our players, and they are all over playing these illegal tournaments taking place in Sedibeng (Vaal).
I can’t blame them because they really miss the game, but our only worry is their safety, COVID-19 is real, and we are worried that the tournaments organizers risk with these players’ lives. We hope the leagues will resume very soon,” said the eager development coaches.
