Masuku said that the new hospital would double the capacity of the old hospital.

VEREENIGING. – The Kopanong Hospital’s CEO, Mmaselloane Kgomojoo has expressed excitement about the project currently underway, where a hospital wing of about 300 beds is being built behind the existing hospital to increase capacity.

This project is an essential steppingstone to improving the state of health in Vereeniging and surrounding areas.

During his visit to the hospital, Health MEC Doctor Bandile Masuku said that the Gauteng Department of Health had undertaken the huge task of increasing capacity in hospitals in order to meet the pressures of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are here to check the progress on the COVID-19 work in the facility. A new 300 bed facility will be built as part of the COVID-19 response. We will use alternative building technology in order to deliver the facility in a short space of time.”

Masuku said that the new hospital would double the capacity of the old hospital.

Kgomojoo says, “We did the handover on June 30 and two days later work on site began. We have projected that the project will be completed by the end of October.

“With the 45 COVID-19 beds we had spoken about during the MEC’s visit, 17 are functional so we have also made progress in this regard,” Kgomojoo concludes.
