Midvaal warns bidders against fraudsters impersonating municipal officials

In a statement, Mhlanga said that the scam involved the impersonation of municipal officials in a ploy to solicit funds for business.

MIDVAAL.- Midvaal Local Municipality through its new Municipal Manager MM Nomcebo Mhlanga has warned bidders against unscrupulous individuals and companies attempting to defraud businesses using the name of the municipality and its officials.

In a statement, Mhlanga said that the scam involved the impersonation of municipal officials in a ploy to solicit funds for business.

“MLM affords businesses the opportunity to supply goods, services and works through a transparent bidding process. The tender process is managed by Supply Chain Management (SCM) under the guidance of a Supply Chain Policy.”

Mhlanga further said that SCM is highly regulated to minimise the risk of fraud and to meet the objectives of being fair, transparent, equitable, competitive and effective.

“Any incident of fraud, corruption, theft and misuse of municipal resources at Midvaal local Municipality can be reported   to the fraud hotline on 0860 268 624.

Mhlanga said that tip-offs and information could be given to the municipality anonymously.
