Kopanong Hospital announces 24 Covid-19 recoveries

Health workers who previously tested positive for Covid-19 are now back on duty.

VEREENIGING. – Kopanong Hospital CEO, Dr Mmaselloane Kgomojoo reported that of the 34 Covid 19 cases, 24 Health workers have recovered and are now back on duty.

Recently, Sedibeng Ster reported that a high number of health workers at the hospital were testing positive and in a state of panic over safety and inadequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

“Staff did not understand what was going on. Everyone was just in a state of panic because we were dealing with an unknown disease. Through information and education we were able to better equip ourselves in dealing with this pandemic.”

Dr Kgomojoo said that after testing positive, health workers were offered isolation sites out of the region as there was no quarantine sites for Covid -19 in the Vaal.

Dr Kgomojoo said that as a hospital, they decided to work strategically to insure that they did not get more cases reported. “We isolated people with cases as well as suspects. In terms of PPE, we are constantly ordering as we can never say that we don’t need more.”

Of the 10 remaining cases, Dr Kgomojoo said that they were awaiting results from five more. Dr Kgomojoo could not contain her excitement about the recoveries the hospital health workers have had so far.
