Two suspected cases of COVID-19 at ELM electricity department

During ongoing screening of municipal workers at the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) two COVID-19 positive cases that have been identified at the Electricity department.

Both employees work between Duncanville, Vanderbijlpark and OK building offices.

According to ELM all three buildings have been are decontaminated, the Ok building will be repeated again on Monday.

“All officials who were in direct contact with the affected employees have been identified and asked to self-quarantine for seven days.

These safety measures have impacted negatively on service delivery – leaving the electricity control room with severe staff shortages and increasing backlogs. Residents of ELM are hereby asked to be patient when logging calls to report electricity faults and outages, and allow responding electrician on site the opportunity and space to attend to faults.”

In line with regulations, the municipality will be disinfecting all affected work-stations and buildings. This means temporarily relocating the control room to allow for cleaning and decontaminating. The electricity control room will operate from 06:00 to 22:00 on Monday.
