Woman set family car on fire

Boipatong Police Spokesperson, Sergeant Thembeka Koago said that they are now investigating cases of murder and attempted murder.

BOIPATONG. – A woman and her child, a-five-month-old-toddler that were admitted to the Sebokeng Hospital after being rescued from a burning car have died after they both succumbed to their injuries at the Sebokeng Hospital at the weekend.
Sedibeng Ster reported last week, (Boipatong Police and SANDF members rescue toddler from burning car), that the Boipatong Police and members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) should be applauded for saving a five-month-old baby and its parents from a burning car in Boipatong on Tuesday.
Sedibeng Ster reported that, while busy with ‘Operation okae molao’ the SAPS and SANDF members saw the vehicle that was on fire in Mamelodi Street, Boipatong and came to the rescue of the toddler and its 35-year-old mother who were then rushed to the Sebokeng Hospital as they had sustained serious burn wounds.
The 38-yer-old father escaped with minor injuries as he had jumped out of the driver’s seat while the vehicle was in motion. The cause of the fire was not known at the time.
However, it has now emerged that the couple were having problems in their relationship and were on their way to the Boipatong Police Station to resolve them when the woman apparently set the vehicle on fire after throwing a flammable substance in the car before setting it alight.
The mother died on Friday and the toddler on Saturday.
Boipatong Police Spokesperson, Sergeant Thembeka Koago said that they are now investigating cases of murder and attempted murder.
