A 33 year old male Palm Springs resident who has a wife and two children visited a General Practitioner in Sasolburg for consultation and to test for Covid-19. He also visited his parents’ home in Zamdela.
At his home was his 81 year old Grandfather, his 51 year old mother and his 28 year old sister.
The 33 year old tested positive to Covid-19 together with his contacts who are an 81 year old Grandfather and his 51 year old mother, whilst his 28 year old sister tested negative.
All these patients who tested positive to Covid-19 are asymptomatic. The 81 year grandfather is admitted at Pelonomi Hospital owing to his age and a precautionary step taken by the Department. The 51 year old mother is also asymptomatic and admitted to Pelonomi Hospital.
“We know that these news have sent panic waves to the community of Metsimaholo in general and Sasolburg in particular. The Free State Department of Health would like to take this opportunity to assure the residents of this town that there is no need for panic as the situation is under control. However, every member of the public must observe the Covid-19 health information and lockdown level 4 regulations,” provincial health spokesperson Mondli Mvambi said in statement.
According to Mvambi the 28 year old female who tested negative from the same house as the people that tested positive is now under home quarantine and is receiving daily active symptoms monitoring.
“We encourage members of the public to stay informed about how Covid-19 is transmitted. We have to observe social distance of 1m to 2m between you and the next person.
Wear a cloth mask every time you go out of your house to public spaces, wash your hands regularly with soap and clean running water, cover your cough and sneeze with your elbow or use a tissue that must be safely disposed in a closed bin with lid,” Mvambi added.
