Over 380 families benefit from food parcels in Boipatong

BOIPATONG.- What has started as a WhatsApp chat between the community members, Pinky Matete and Paseka Simelane resulted into a successful campaign to serve more than 380 families.

Matete said the concept started as a chat on social media platform among the community of Boipatong and Vanderbijlpark that contributed their finances and time to serve the people in the area. She said that the initiative is not associated to any political party, religious organisations or associations but just individuals with a common goal of helping the community during the lockdown.

“We could only give once a week of which Saturday feasible day for all members and for sustainability we had to. The next thing it got bigger and better with more people coming on board to contribute toward the initiative. We managed to serve 600 loaves of breads and 100 vegetables pack with 2.5 Kg Mealie Meal to 100 families in the area”, said Matete, who is the Senior Account Manager of Telco Company in Johannesburg. This Boipatong Leadership Initiative consists with well-known people in the community, business people, professionals and former professional soccer players. Matete said she is thankful to everyone who contributed to the success of this initiative. She said she wished to mention everyone by names but the list is endless.

She told Sedibeng Ster that they will continue to observe challenges on a weekly basis as the demand rise and keeping order and making sure that comply with the lockdown regulations. She said the members have been really cooperative in helping with sanitising and complying with the required social distance. The initiative remains open to anyone from Boipatong who can contribute with their time, resources or donations including face-masks among others.
