Woman (23) arrested for selling liquor on Freedom Day

Police had been keeping a low profile surveillance on the tavern after they had received information about the tavern selling liquor.

SEBOKENG. – A 23-year-old daughter of a tavern owner in Zone 8 near Evaton was arrested for selling liquor on Monday, Freedom Day.

Police Spokesperson Captain Aubrey Moopeloa said that police had been keeping a low profile surveillance on the tavern after they had received information about the tavern selling liquor, disobeying the lockdown regulations in terms of disaster management act 57 of 2020.

“On Monday (Freedom day) at around 17:00 the Sedibeng District Police Task Team arrested the 23-year-old daughter of a female tavern owner in Zone 8, Evaton for selling liquor which is regarded as non-essential goods during the period of lockdown.”

Moopeloa said that the Evaton police would like to warn members of the public to comply with the lockdown regulations in terms of Covid -19 disaster management act 57 of 2020.

The woman will appear soon before the Sebokeng magistrates court to face a charge of violating the disaster management act 57 of 2020 during lockdown for selling non-essential goods.
