ELM mayor ‘baptizes’ local taxi’s

VANDERBIJLPARK.-The Gauteng MEC for Transport David Mamabolo together with Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Executive Mayor, Gift Moerane, came together to sanitize meter and public taxi’s at the Vanderbijpark taxi rank in Vanderbijlpark yesterday.

Moerane took time to also personally strap a sanitizer tank behind his back to sanitize the taxis while remarking jokingly that, “it is probably the first time that the taxi’s are being baptized.”

Moerane, who is an ordained priest, appealed to the taxi drivers to observe the regulations put in place for Covid-19. Mamabolo remarked that a huge number of taxi’s have been impounded in the province for not observing the Covid-19 regulations such as overloading.

The Chairman of the Civic Center Taxi Association, Mr Mfutshane said that the lives of commuters are important. Mfutshane was pleased that as the local industry they are also appreciated and recognized by the province and national government.

“We abide by the law as we make sure our drivers do not break the law of the pandemic killer diseases.”
