SAVE the Vaal issues Freedom Day challenge to fight Covid-19

SAVE plans to hand out the packs on Freedom Day - 27th April.

VANDERBIJLPARK. – SAVE the VAAL and the RIVER PROPERTY and SAFETY ASSOCIATION have joined the fight to stop the spread of the Covid-19 virus. The organisations have joined forces with the Riverside Vanderbijl Park Rotary Club to distribute life-saving packs of sanitizers and re-usable masks to the Bophelong residents and other informal settlements alongside the banks of the Vaal River.

The organisations are also distributing these packs to domestic workers of river property owners.

Chairman of SAVE, Malcolm Plant said: “We also challenge other organisations such as OUTA, and the Golden Triangle Chamber of Commerce to join the fight and help to flatten the curve”.

SAVE plans to hand out the packs on Freedom Day – 27th April.

“SAVE has earned a reputation of fighting the authorities to prevent pollution of the Vaal River and enforcing the law through the High Court but through this and other initiatives, we demonstrate that it is also involved in activities that directly assist local communities. We are now contributing to the fight against Covid-19. It is our wish, and in fact our demand, that the authorities must ensure that the problems of the Emfuleni waste water treatment system are resolved speedily as we would prefer to be able to concentrate on other community-based activities. At present, our priority must remain the prevention of sewage pollution in the Vaal River as this also represents a serious health risk, but we believe that every little bit helps in the fight against Covid-19” said Plant.

SAVE is in ongoing discussions with the Minister of Water and Sanitation in an effort to speed up the repairwork to Emfuleni’s waste water system.

Plant concluded with this – “We welcome all donations to be used for this good purpose, and remember, because SAVE is a registered Non-Profit Organisation, your donations are tax-deductible”.

Donations can be made to: Standard bank : SAVE account number 0281049521 reference COVID and your cell phone number.
