Zone 13 murder suspect tries to commit suicide

The man allegedly drank sanitizer and rat poison after the gruesome murder.

SEBOKENG.- The 40-year-old man who allegedly stabbed and killed a 34- year-old woman in Zone 13, Sebokeng on Monday has since tried to commit suicide.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Puleng Marumo, the mother of the suspect said, “My son was not a troublesome person. He   has not even touched alcohol in his entire life.”

According to the Marumo family, the man is placed in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Sebokeng hospital under police guard.

The couch on which the body of the deceased was found.

Marumo said she received a call from one of her son’s to come back home from Boitumelo were she had been visiting. Unfolding the story, Puleng described the shocking scene as she arrived at home.

“I received a call from my other son who told me that he (the suspect) was in a fight and that there was a crowd of cops and bystanders. We walked together with my daughter-in-law and just as we were about to arrive at my home, I saw scores of people and police vehicles,” she said.

“When I entered the yard, all I could see was dozens of people looking straight at the scene. From the roof of the shack, there was a cable flowing down, with blood stains on it. It was as if my son had used it to try and commit suicide after he realised the mess that he was in,” she added.

A leather couch which was inside the shack had blood stains which indicated that the deceased was stabbed on it and left in a pool of blood.

“We are still shocked and do not know as to what might have led my son to killing someone. He is a sweet guy with no troubles with anyone. Local residents also know him for his humbleness,” said the visibly distraught mother.

The mother claimed that her son also told the police to shoot him while he locked the shack door.

“To prove that he only realised the foolishness of his act, he tried by all means to kill himself. He drank poison and tried to hang himself. The desperation of asking cops to shoot him, clearly proves that he wanted an easy way out, rather than being arrested,” she said.

Gauteng provincial cops spokesman Captain Mavela Masondo confirmed a case of murder was opened and investigations are underway.
