Pensioner who died in queue to be laid to rest on Saturday

Mokaeane will be buried on Saturday at the Vanderbijlpark cemetery under new SA Lockdown regulations which stipulates that only 50 people are allowed to attend a funeral.

SHARPEVILLE. – The family of Johannes Mokaeane (66) from Vuka in Sharpeville has described him as a loving man and a pillar of the entire family.

Mokaeane collapsed on Monday after standing in a long queue to get his social grant at an outlet in Bedworth Park.

The wife of the deceased, Mosidi Selemela said that she was surprised to hear about the passing of her husband as she expected him to come back alive and well, just the way he left.

Nnana Mokaeane, sister of the deceased said that they had lost a pillar of the entire family. “He is a man who loved his wife and his entire family. He is known by a lot of people because for a long time he worked for a prominent undertaker. He is going to be missed by all of us.”

Police are investigating an inquest. Colonel Noxolo Kweza says, “Paramedics were called to the scene, on arrival they declared the man dead. Police are investigating.”
