Education Department investigating feeding scheme food theft

The Gauteng East Department of Education has said that it is dealing with allegations of food meant for a feeding scheme for the needy at a Sharpeville High School.

SHARPEVILLE. – Following Sedibeng Ster’s exposé about kitchen staff selling food meant for a feeding scheme for needy children at Lekoa Shandu Secondary School in Sharpeville last week, the Gauteng East Department of Education has said that it is investigating the allegations.

Sedibeng East Department of Education, Acting District Director, Phello Metsing said, however, that the allegations are in fact coming from Mohloli Secondary School, and not LeKoa-Shandu Secondary School as reported. When asked if the selling of the food meant for feeding scheme was not so widespread that it could be at both schools as Sedibeng Ster had received information accompanied by pictures as proof, Metsing said, “I can’t say it’s rife when it was not reported and (the) Lekoa Shandu principal assured me that they have CCTV cameras at the nutrition room and there is no way he couldn’t pick up if there were any food stolen. However if such cases are reported they are dealt with.”
