SA lockdown: “Three weeks ago we thought like you”

"I would like to give you some advice. As you already know, in Spain the situation with the virus is terrible. I am telling you this because I am seeing how people are not taking quarantine seriously.

Three weeks ago we thought like you, people went to soccer, went to bars, to demonstrations. The government did not advise not to go. We used to say: “they are only 2 dead, it is nothing; that of Italy or China cannot happen here, until it happened”.

All hospitals in Spain are collapsed, to the point of having to do other emergency ones. A week ago, we could see how they removed corpses of old people who were living with other living residents, it was a horrifying spectacle. I can only think of one stage in the history of Spain to compare: the civil war.

So please. And with my heart in my hand I ask you: DO NOT LEAVE YOUR HOUSES unless it is strictly necessary. This is not a game and the lives of your loved ones are at risk, do your parents, grandparents, girlfriend or boyfriend really deserve to be in the hospital because of your negligence?

If you want to be heroes, don’t go out. Right now is what we need, heroes.”
