Men in police uniform rob Vaal Mall jewelry store

VANDERBIJLPARK. – Two African males wearing SAPS uniform, accompanied by an African female recently robbed a Vaal Mall jewelry store recently.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Simon Mofokatsane reports that the shop assistant heard the security door open while she was carrying out her duties. “She saw an unknown African male wearing police uniform entering, the man then pointed her with a firearm.

“He  asked for the safe key and panic button. He took a few jewelry items including a watch belonging to the assistant. He then instructed her to sit down and tied her together with her  manger who is also female.. Two other employees were also tied.”

Mofokatsane said that the two other accomplices also came into the store, with the second man also wearing police uniform. “The man managed to open the safe and started taking jewelry. He went to the front where the female was also busy taking jewelry. When they were done they left the scene.

“The victims managed to untie themselves and the manager immediately ran after the culprits. She was able to catch the female accomplice and  security officers were able to arrest the woman.”

When police arrived on the scene, the security handed the woman over. Sedibeng District Commander General Zodwa Molefe assigned the Vanderbijlpark SAPS Task Team together with Tactical Response Team (TRT) to the case.

“They took the woman to Johannesburg. She was able to show the team where they had met. On arrival a petrol station, police asked for surveillance and they were able to identify two cars belonging to the two African males. They then asked the woman where they could find the men and she said Hill-brow.”

Police traced the suspects and managed to arrest the two men after recovering the jewelry and police equipment. Mofokatsane said the the SAPS was proud of the wonderful job carried out by the Vanderbijlpark Task team and TRT.
