Midvaal releases plan of action on precautionary measures against COVID-19

The Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) wishes to reassure the business community, agricultural sector, the residents of Midvaal and any other stakeholder of its commitment to remaining a caring, people- centred and proactive government.

In a carefully coordinated and well-informed consultative approach, the Municipality has established a Joint Operations Command Centre (JOC) located in the Public Safety Department, from where all operations during the lockdown period will be coordinated.

The primary measures the municipality has put in place include (but are not limited to):

The above-mentioned services will remain operational; however, it is noted that staff will be limited in numbers and/or be available on a stand-by basis. It should also be noted that as the need change, the operational plans stipulated may be amended. All Non-Essential Staff have been granted annual leave for the duration of the lockdown period.

“In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, I have committed a total of R200 000 from the Mayoral golf donation proceeds and a cancelled event towards the municipality’s efforts to fight the spread of the virus. I urge all our residents, councillors and municipal staff to heed the necessary measures instituted by national government,” said the Executive Mayor, Bongani Baloyi.

Furthermore, the municipality wishes to appeal to business communities and those who have the ability, to contribute whatever resources at their disposal to places such as old age homes and children’s safety shelters. This should be done within the confines of law and health-safety regulations.

More information will be made available on the municipal website on the location of a reliable drop- off point for these necessities.

If you need more information about the virus, please call The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) general public hotline at 0800-029-999, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm.
