Covid-19: Bars, taverns, and clubs close at 6 pm

No special events liquor licenses may be considered for approval during the duration of the national state of disaster

Strict measures have been implemented by government to contain the spread of COVID-19 with 116 cases having been confirmed as of Wednesday, 18 March, Krugersdorp News reports.

All on-consumption premises selling liquor including taverns, restaurants and clubs must be closed with immediate effect, or must accommodate no more than 50 persons at any time. This, provided that adequate space is available and that all directions in respect of hygienic conditions and limitation to exposure to persons with COVID-19 are adhered to.

All premises selling liquor which provides accommodation will now need to ensure that they implement measures to stop the spread of COVID-19. Establishments such as bars, taverns, clubs and restaurants that sell alcohol must be closed between 6 pm and only re-open at 9 am the following morning on weekdays and Saturdays.

They are required to close on 1 pm on Sundays and public holidays.
