Amid panic buying chaos retailers enforce customer limits

With President Cyril Ramaphosa having declared the Coronavirus a national state of disaster in terms of the Disaster Management Act on Sunday, a number South Africans stormed different stores in an attempt to stock up as much household items as they can.

This has led to a public outcry forcing retailers to enforce customer limits.

“We have already started enforcing customer limits not least because we are mindful that stockpiling hurts the most vulnerable consumers in our society,” Makro said in a statement.

Pick n Pay has urged their customers to shop responsibly and keep others in mind. “We would like to assure you that you can continue to rely on Pick n Pay during the coronavirus outbreak and beyond. We have already seen an increase in purchases of certain products, and we ask customers to shop responsibly and with their community in mind.”

Woolworths has asked their customers to shop with kindness and consideration “Special thanks to our customers for being supportive of the new measures, and we ask that you shop with kindness and consideration.”

“We’re doing our best to ensure there’s enough for everyone. Thanks for your support!”Checkers said.
