Five killed in Vanderbijlpark three-vehicle collision

VANDERBIJLPARK. -A pregnant woman and four other people were killed last night following a three-vehicle collision on the R553 in Vanderbijlpark.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services arrived on the scene to find two light motor vehicles on the side of the road while another vehicle was found in the middle of the road.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring says, “On closer inspection, paramedics found four patients lying trapped inside one of the light motor vehicles. Three of the entrapped patients had already succumbed to numerous injuries while the fourth was in a critical condition.”

Meiring adds that Rescue Services had to use specialised tools to free the critically injured woman from the vehicle. “Unfortunately, during the extrication, the woman succumbed to her injuries.

“Three other patients from the other vehicles were assessed. A woman, believed to be 8-months-pregnant, had sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition while two other patients had sustained moderate injuries.”

Medics treated the patients and provided the critically injured woman with advanced life support interventions before they were transported to nearby hospitals.

“Unfortunately, after some time in the hospital the critically injured woman succumbed to her injuries. The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.”
