MEC Mosupyoe hands over 20 000 wheelie bins to ELM

Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Agriculture, Environment and Rural Development, Morakane Mosupyoe on Thursday handed over 20 000 240-litre wheelie bins to ELM.

Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM) Executive Mayor, Councillor Busisiwe Modisakeng, her ELM counterpart, Councillor Gift Moerane and MMC for Environmental Management and Planning, Councillor Nomvula Thulo were on hand to receive the bins.

Speaking at the hand-over ceremony held at ELM Facilities Department in Vanderbijlpark, MEC Mosupyoe said her department is mandated to protect the right of citizens of Gauteng to live in an environment that is not harmful to their health.

She said the wheelie bins would go a long way in supporting the Municipal Waste Sector Plan which is aimed at addressing the infrastructure backlogs related to solid waste management.

A criteria for the wheelie bins distribution and collection in Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark will be shared with residents in due time.
