WATCH: Fire leaves Putswasten family destitute

SHARPEVILLE.- Sharpeville’s Ward 12 Councillor, Thami Mvala and the Putswasten community joined hands to help the Mbokose family after their house recently burned down.

The fire engulfed the house misteriously while the family was at a church service on a Sunday, and its cause is still unknown. The community came in numbers and tried to fight the fire, fire fighers were also called to the scene with the situation worsening. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Mvala said the incident left the family with nothing.
Food, furniture, clothes and the children’s school uniforms were among the things that burned inside the house. “The community and some good Samaritans have since joined hands to help the family by donating building materials, food, clothes and school uniforms.” Mvala said.
MKVA Boitshepiville under the leadership of Ditaba Mokhosi, SANCO Chairperson, Chingo Vilakazi and the community of Ward 12 took an initiative to clean the rubble at the affected house.
President Hyper and Sharpeville Supermaket also came to the rescue of the family while Whitecross and Family Store Centre in Vereeniging donated school uniforms.
Mvala was also full of compliments for the role that the SAPS played. “I want to thank the good samaritans who responded positively when we knocked on their doors. We’re unsure what happened, but we are glad that there was no one in the house because the situation could have been worse.”
“As the Ward 12 Councilor, I want to thank all the people who made an effort to make donations to the family. “I also want to take this opportunity to thank the Putswasten community for showing unity when one of their community members was in need. “This shows how much they care about
their neighbours,” said Mvala.
Mvala said if there are people who want to donate something to the community, they are welcome to do so. He can be contacted on 083 289 9293.
