I will go beyond the call of duty: Sigo

THE-BARRAGE. -Nomakhwazi Sigo (44) has added on to the number of Female station commanders for the SAPS in the Vaal Triangle, proving that gender does not determine one’s competence. Sigo, who hails from the Eastern Cape, has been part of the SAPS from 2002 and has managed to build herself up to her recent appointment as new station commander.

“It is such an honour for me to have been appointed as the new commander for Barrage SAPS. This is something I have been working towards ever since I launched my career. It is definitely a step up for me and I believe that with the support of my officers, we will reach greater heights.”
Sigo is not one to sit in the office, she was already geared up for an operation that would be carried out on Thursday following her interview with Sedibeng Ster.
“I feel the need to be there whenever I can when fellow officers carry out operations so that I know exactly what they go through on a daily basis. When my officers go out there, I want to be there with them giving my all and helping them to catch criminals.”
Sigo said that she would not be bringing a lot of changes to the station as the SAPS has guidelines and processes that should be followed when doing things. “I would like to urge the community of Barrage to work with the police, especially because of the season we are in. Currently, our dominating
crime is house-breakings and stock thefts. I would like the community to take extra precautions by ensuring that their houses are locked, and all windows are closed.
They can also leave relatives or friends at their houses when they go away, to help prevent break-ins.” However, Sigo said that there would be a lot of police visibility in the vicinity. “We need people that want to be patrollers to also come forward and help officers, if we all work together, we can fight crime.”
Sigo also urged residents to work with the police in fighting crime, “Our number one enemy is crime and together we can do better. My door is always open.” Sigo concludes.
