VEREENIGING. – Vereeniging police spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda has warned the community against crime syndicates looking to make easy money over the festive season. Funda urged the community to be on high alert all times and not to trust easily.
“The first group is that of three beautiful African ladies frequenting drinking places in town. They target the last patrons and pretend to be stranded, looking for a place to sleep as the person they are visiting did no arrive.
“Once you take them to to your place, they spike your drink and as soon as you pass out, they take your car, furniture, clothes, wallet and leave you unconscious.”
Funda states that most of the victims wake up in hospital the next day. “A lot of cases have already been opened and police are investigating.”
The second group is that of thugs robbing businesses in and around Sedibeng. ” The group will arrive at the bussines premises, tie security and personnel with strings and seize products. Business owners are warned to be extra vigilant, as this time of the year robbers want quick cash.”
Funda also warns Stockvel members not to take a large amount of money from the banks to go and divide among themselves. “They must rather transfer through to their bank accounts , otherwise they might end up being victims of crime.”
