Former students want to give back to school
The aim of the event was to network and share good memories of their high school days, but also to share ideas about how they can, as career men and women, contribute to the school that made them who they are today.
VANDERBIJLPARK. – About 95 former students from Thuto-Lore Comprehensive School in Sharpeville took a walk down memory lane over the weekend with a purposeful reunion held at Tlhaping Village in Bedworth Park.
During the reunion, the group took a moment of silence in remembrance of those who are no longer alive.
The aim of the event was to network and share good memories of their high school days, but also to share ideas about how they can, as career men and women, contribute to the school that made them who they are today.
Sello Mokwatsi explained fondly,
“After realising that our group is involved in different career fields, we saw an opportunity to use this as a tool to help develop our former school.
“We looked at the current situation and saw that there is a lot we can contribute.
“We see a huge difference in the way children carry themselves in schools than when we were still young.
“There are some things we can help with by becoming positive role models for the youth attending at the school.”
Mokwatsi said that they met with the School Governing Body (SGB) to determine what the current needs of the school are.
Bolawana Mbongosi said that a lot had changed compared to when they were high school students 25 years ago.
“There were subjects such as guidance and biblical studies, the school did not only focus on academics, but also on you as an individual and the way you carry yourself.
“This definitely had a good impact on us because most of us turned out into responsible adults,” Mbongosi says.
