Community burns drunk suspects’ car

EVATON.- A 10-year-old boy was killed and five other people were seriously injured when an alleged drunk driver lost control of his silver grey BMW 323 in Palm Springs, Evaton on Saturday night.

It is said that at about 19:00 the suspect was driving his car while under the influence of alcohol when he lost control of it and hit customers who were at a tuckshop nearby. 10-year-old Siphiwe Manana lost his life in the accident while five other
people were left with serious injuries. Police and emergency personnel were called to the scene.
Evaton Police spokesperson, Captain Aubrey Moopeloa said that after the ambulance and the mortuary vehicle removed the body, community members became aggressive. They then started stoning the suspects’ vehicle and burned it. The suspect was arrested and is facing charges of culpable homicide, drunken driving and reckless or negligent driving. Moopeloa said that Evaton police warn drivers not to drink and drive during this
coming festive season to avoid loss of lives.
