VANDERBIJLPARK. – The great-grandmother of Lucas Mosikidi (6) and Lerato Mosikidi (3) who died of poisoning last week says that the whole family is shattered.
Mamorena Mosikidi told Sedibeng Ster that the two kids had started to get sick and died after they were given biscuits by a total stranger in Bophelong on Monday.
“The kids were on their way to the shop to go and buy biscuits, but we are told that they never got to the shop and that they were instead given biscuits by a stranger outside the yard.”
The third child, Lehlohonolo Mosikidi (5) refused to eat the biscuits from the stranger and said that they were dirty. He was subsequently taken to hospital where he was tested and cleared by doctors.
“The kids got sick in Vanderbijlpark when they went shopping with my daughter Mmatshidi and my grand-daughter Tshidi. They started turning green. They were both taken to different medical centres where they both died.”
Mamorena said that her grand-daughter, Pinki Mosikidi, had died in the same manner in April this year.
Mamorena said that she did not wish this on any parent, urging parents to always keep an eye on their kids.
Vanderbijlpark Police Spokesperson, Sergeant Gertrude Makhale said that a post-mortem was conducted.
“The SAPS has received the post-mortem results which indicate that both the kids died from poisoning. More tests will be conducted to find out which specific food they consumed contained the poison.”
Makhale said that the police are appealing to members of the community to allow the investigation to take its course.
The kids will be buried this week
