Greatness starts small. It starts as potential – a glimpse of what’s possible, a vision for the future. Maybe it’s not clear, or maybe our youth don’t see it yet, but the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation does. They believe that there is no greater opportunity to grow young entrepreneurs than through education.
The Foundation believes that entrepreneurially-minded individuals with ethical values and strong leadership skills hold the promise of change. The Scholarship focuses on cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset, personal mastery and academic excellence among candidates. To date, over 200 learners have graduated from the Scholarship programme, through the 37 partner placement schools.
APPLICATION CRITERIA:
• Academic requirements:
1. Applicant must be in Grade 6 this year (2019) to apply.
2. Applicants must achieve 70% or higher in Mathematics and English and an average of 70% in both Grade 5 and Grade 6.
• Evidence of entrepreneurial potential:
1. Intellectual Imagination: Enjoys being creative.
2. Achievement Excellence: Set high standards for themselves.
3. Courageous Commitment: Must be determined to finish tasks they start. Must not give up.
4. Spirit of Significance: Wants to make a difference.
5. Personal Initiative: Takes initiative.
• The applicant must be a South African citizen.
• Candidates must not be older than 12 years of age and not younger than 11 years of age in Grade 6.
The Scholarship also covers the following: Full tuition and boarding fees, a monthly allowance (pocket money), a travel subsidy, stationery and prescribed books, toiletries, school uniforms, casual clothing and support for extra-mural activities.
Scholars also have access to an entrepreneurial development programme. This ensures their continued progress by providing additional leadership and entrepreneurial development opportunities.
Scholarship applications are now open for all current Grade 6 learners and closes on the 13th of September 2019.
