Operation Basadi closes off Women’s Month

The officers conducted stop and go searches on hundreds of vehicles, including searches for licences, drugs, stolen motor vehicles and anything considered as illegal.

VEREENIGING. – The last week of August, which is recognised as part of Women’s Month, was very hectic for female law enforcement officers in the Sedibeng Cluster.

The week started with a suspect raid operation on Tuesday night. On Friday officers held Operation Basadi on the R59, to end Women’s Month.

The officers conducted stop and go searches on hundreds of vehicles, including searches for licences, drugs, stolen motor vehicles and anything considered as illegal.

Sebokeng Visible Policing Commander, Colonel Mammone Mofokeng, who was the operational manager for Operation Basadi, said that female officers from all the various stations in the Sedibeng District had convened at the Vereeniging City Hall parking area for a parade.

“We were then divided into two groups; the first group went to conduct a roadblock on the N1 and the other on the R59. We are also handing out information pamphlets that can assist community members with safety tips and vital information that can help them in an emergency.”

Col Mofokeng said it was important for female officers to be recognised as competent, even when they do operations alone. “We wanted to prove that we can do the job as women only and that we don’t depend on the male officers to do a proper job.”

Col Mofokeng urged members of the community to be co-operative when dealing with the police, saying that this would go a long way in combating crime.
