Woman charged with child abduction

ORANGE-FARM. – Police Spokesperson, Captain Teboho Lephoto, has asked parents to be extra vigilant, especially when trusting strangers with their kids.

The warning comes after the arrest of a seemingly pregnant 22-year-old woman, who recently abducted a three-month-old baby at Stretford Clinic, in Orange Farm.

It is alleged that the 28-year-old mother, Neo Salemane, had asked the woman to watch her baby while she went to the bathroom but upon her return, the woman had fled with her baby.

“I want to tell mothers not to make the same mistake as me by trusting a complete stranger with my child. I am pleased that there was a happy ending, as I was reunited with my child, but another person might not be as lucky as me.”

Salemane said that the baby was with her and in perfectly good health.

Capt Lephoto says, “The police were alerted and were able to make a swift arrest and get the baby back to safety.”

Captain Lephoto said that the woman, who is still in custody has made her first appearance in court: “This was to make her aware of the charges that have been brought against her. She is still in police custody and will be appearing in court soon.”

The baby has since been reunited with his parents. All the stakeholders involved in bringing the baby back to safety have been thanked.
