Curro: Educating for the future

Open day at Curro Vanderbijlpark on August 24

An excellent academic education is undoubtedly a prerequisite for a child’s future success. This is the reason more and more parents opt to enrol their children in well-established private schools with a proven track record.

Curro, one such an admirable institution, can this year look back on 21 years of national success. Curro currently has more than 160 schools operating on more than 60 campuses across Southern Africa with more than 55 000 learners.

Curro Vanderbijlpark is one of six new Curro schools which opened its doors in January 2019. Situated in the heart of Vanderbijlpark’s academic area – with the North-West University’s Vaal campus just opposite the street in Hendrik van Eck Boulevard, and just a few kilometres from the Vaal University of Technology – Curro Vanderbijlpark is already an academic home to hundreds of learners and an academic staff of some 30 educators, as well as supporting staff.

“Curro Vanderbijlpark Independent School believes that education is the cornerstone in the development of quality leaders and responsible citizens who will positively impact the economy, environment and society,” says Executive Head Ms Sharon Gordon. “Curro empowers children to reach their full potential. We offer an enriched curriculum for academic excellence with balanced sports and cultural activities. Curro’s ethos and value system are derived from four key principles: child friendliness, positive discipline, Christian values (ethics and morals) and creative thinking,” says Ms Gordon.

“Curro Vanderbijlpark wants to support young people with a future vision. Visions of becoming future leaders, astronauts, entrepreneurs, politicians, doctors, nurses, engineers and many more, but most of all, responsible South African citizens contributing to the future of our beloved South Africa.” Curro Vanderbijlpark presents Grade R to Grade 10 (Grade 10 in 2020) with Grades 11 and 12 being phased in over the following two academic years. At the end of Grade 12, learners write the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) examination. The school offers education in English Home Language and Afrikaans or Sesotho as First Additional Languages.
