Sebokeng hospital now offers Vocational Rehabilitation

VEREENIGING. – Sebokeng Regional Hospital has opened its doors to members of the public through offering Vocational Rehabilitation known as Voc rehab.

Voc rehab is made up of a series of services that are designed to facilitate the return to work by people with disabilities or by people who have recently been injured or fell ill.

Sebokeng Hospital’s Acting Allied Manager and Chief Occupational Therapist Claudine Ndwambi says that this is a service that is especially important for people who fell ill, have been injured or became unable to perform duties as a result. “Some people are dismissed unfairly from work because they got injured, this is why it is so important for them to come and see us.

We can assess them and also prescribe a solution that can help them and the employer.” Ndwambi, who works as a Voc specialist said that sometimes people can no longer perform their initial functions at work and need to be given lighter jobs. “The assessment tells us exactly what you will and will not be able to do. We use equipment especially designed for this. The machines do not lie.”

Ndwambi aslo urges mothers who have special kids not to sit with the kids at home, but to bring them in to get assessed.“Levels of disability are not the same. Some children can be referred to special schools and they can lead normal lives and even go into the workplace.”

“We work in three phases. The first one is that of the assessment, followed by compiling a report and thereafter giving recommendations. Don’t just sit at home because you were told that you can no longer work. Get information and get help.”
