The radio station (as VCR – Vaal Community Radio) broadcast for the first time on August 1, 1995. Since then, it has grown each year with a constant increase in listenership figures.
“To keep up with the constant changing technology, 90.6 FM adapts its broadcasting format and line-up, always however, keeping in mind the always changing choices and preferences of its listeners,” says Station Manager Gilbert Antunes.
90.6 FM has been the yearly winner of PMR Awards and this year the station was again awarded a Diamond Award: Outstanding 1st overall for local Radio Stations: General entertainment and music and news and current affairs.
“90.6 FM is constantly involved with a wide variety of community and charity projects in and around the Vaal as it tries to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Along with that, they also broadcast on a daily basis employment opportunities available in and around the Vaal to further try and uplift the Vaal and its economy.
“After 24 years on air, we look forward to entertaining and informing our listeners for many more years to come. We believe our listeners are proud of our radio station and what it has accomplished over the past 24 years and that they are, along with 90.6 FM, excited about what the next 24 years hold,” says Antunes.
