Sedibeng Flying Squad, Sedibeng K9 and Johannesburg K9 unit arrest suspects and recover fire arm

MEYERTON. – On Sunday 21 July 2019 at about 18:30 members of Sedibeng Flying Squad responded to an armed robbery in progress at Sky City Shoprite in Klipriver area.

The members managed to trap the armed suspects in a strong room inside the shop and called for backup from the K9 unit. Warrant officer Botha and Sergeant Khambule of Johannesburg K9 and Warrant officer Van Rooyen and Constable Cst Ngcezu from Sedibeng K9 responded to the call for back up.

On their arrival the members where pointed to a strong room where the suspects were said to be in. Warrant officer Botha with patrol dog Billy and Warrant officer Van Rooyen with patrol dog Max approached the strong room where the suspects were in. The suspects were warned to come out of the room and they refused. The patrol dogs were released and both suspects were apprehended by the dogs.

Sgt Ledwaba from Sedibeng Flying Squad searched the strong room after the suspects were apprehended and a 9mm Z88 pistol was found. Forensics checked and found the serial number of the fire arm was removed. The suspects aged 27 and 32 were treated on the scene for bite wounds and taken to Koponang hospital.

Investigation is still ongoing while the suspects remain in custody.
