VANDERBIJLPARK.- The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) problems seem to be far from over despite the efforts by its Executive Mayor, Gift Moerane, to turn things around for the municipality and fix the mess left by his predecessors.
This week frustrated CW6, Vanderbijlpark, residents demanded answers from the municipality over an electricity box that has been left open in Tonnyson Street.
As if this is not enough, the residents in this area are without electricity, allegedly as a result of damage caused to the same electricity box by, allegedly an ELM electrician who was trying to fix it.
The residents claimed it has been weeks since the box was left open by the ELM electrician. The box is just opposite the Die Anker Special School and fear is that something terrible might happen if one of the learners or children in the neighbourhood touches the open wires. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, the residents in the area said that attempts to report this to the municipality have fallen on deaf ears. They said that they have been without electricity for weeks now.
“We have lost hope in the municipality because this is not the first time we report this. There is a Children’s Home just a few metres from that box and our main worry is what is going to happen if one of the children touches those open wires,” said the residents.
Numerous attempts to get comment from ELM proved fruitless at the time of going to print.
