Police foil heist plan

The driver of the black Audi S5 lost control of it and ended up crushing the wall of a house in Moshoeshoe Street and the vehicle caught fire. Two suspects were taken to the hospital by the police who recovered two rifles, three magazines and five vehicles.

 

SEBOKENG. – A man was killed and eight other suspects were arrested when Police foiled a cash-in-transit heist plan in Sebokeng on Friday afternoon.

The incident happened in Moshoeshoe Street near Sebokeng Post Office at around 13:00.

Provincial Police spokesperson, Colonel Brenda Muridili, said the eight men were alleged to be cash-in-transit robbers from Sharpeville, Soweto, Soshanguve, Alexandra and Tembisa.

The foiled heist attempt was to take place on a on a cash-in-transit vehicle at the Evaton Mall kin Evaton.

Muridili said various law enforcement agencies including the Johannesburg Metro Police spotted five suspicious vehicles, a BMW X1, a Volkswagen kombi, a Volkswagen Polo Vivo, a Fiat bakkie, a Tata India and an Audi S5 with false registration number plates in various areas.

A chase ensued and progressed into a shooting, resulting with the death of a male suspect.

The hunt is on for the remaining suspects who are on the lose.

National Commissioner of the Police, General Khehla Sitole hailed the members involved for continuing to stamp the authority of the state and protecting the inhabitant of the republic and their property.

Members of the community are encouraged to report any information that can lead police to the whereabouts of the suspects to the police’s Crime Stop number 08600 10111.

Police said that information received will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.

All suspects, charged with attempted cash-in-transit heist briefly appeared at the Sebokeng Magistrate Court in sebokeng on Monday, June 10.

The matter has been postponed to June 18 for further investigation and formal bail application.
